Hernandez, a commercial driver for Waste Management, was working near 131st Street in Miami-Dade County when he noticed heavy smoke coming from an industrical warehouse.

"I just called 911 and I explained that a building looked like it was on fire," he said.

What Hernandez didn't know was that Jose Antonio Borrero, an employee was alseep inside.

"Thank you for that guy," Borrero said.

Miami-Dade County fire rescue and police arrived, broke down the door to the warehouse, and saved Borrero.

Apparently, Borrero lives and works in the warehouse off 13240 SW 131 St. in Miami, never heard any knocks. He was not injured in the fire.

Multiple fire trucks then battled the fire.

Hernandez is a Waste Watch trained driver which means he acts as eyes and ears to keep the community safe.

“Our national Waste Watch program, which we launched in Miami-Dade County just three months ago, prepares our drivers to be an extra set of eyes and ears for local police, fire departments and emergency services in our communities,” said Dawn McCormick, Community Affairs Manager for Waste Management.

"I feel good. For this guy, I feed good," Hernandez said.
