Water Main Break Floods Miami-Dade Streets

Boil water order issued in Northwest Miami-Dade after 12-inch water main breaks

A precautionary boil water order was issued Friday after a 12-inch water main break flooded streets in Northwest Miami-Dade.

The break happened in the area of Northwest 36th Street and Northwest 37th Avenue, according to officials with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.

WASD crews had to shut down water in the area, which includes small businesses and a condominium.

"Due to the loss of pressure in the system, all water used for drinking or cooking purposes should be boiled until further notice prior to consumption," a statement from the WASD read. "Water should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least one minute.  There is no problem with using the water for bathing and other household needs."

The water will be sampled and after tests are cleared, the restrictions will be lifted, officials said.

The break also caused the intersection to be closed to traffic except for one eastbound lane on Northwest 36th Street.

Officials said they didn't know how long it would take to fix the break or what caused it.
