There's a new way to avoid the causeway traffic between downtown Miami and South Beach: water taxis.
Two companies started running water taxis on Biscayne Bay last month. Both Biscayne Xpress Water Taxi and Water Taxi Miami are based at Miamarina at Bayside. Each makes runs to the downtown Riverwalk station and to the Miami Beach Marina.
The last time Miami had a water taxi service was 10 years ago.
Alyce Robertson of Miami's Downtown Development Authority tells The Miami Herald that with more than 65,000 residents living in downtown Miami, the city has more built-in customers than ever before.
