More than 1,600 schools from coast to coast or hoping to come away a winner this Thursday in the Clorox Power a Bright Future grant giveaway, and one of them is from South Florida.
For the past several weeks, students and staff at Imagine Weston Charter Elementary School have been asking everyone from family to friends to vote for them via text and on the Bright Future website.
"We've been making flyers, and we've been handing them out to our friends," said fourth grader Leah Lipke.
Imagine Weston has its eye on a $25,000 grant which they would use to outfit its classrooms with the latest technology, like new document cameras and computers.
Students in Debbie Savitz's fourth grade class have a modern Promethean whiteboard, which can be used for everything from watching videos to solving math problems, but they can use it, because it's missing a projector, said Ben Fraser.
"We only have, like five, because they're a lot of money," Fraser said.
Savitz said the grant would allow the school to move its curriculum into the 2st Century.
"Our assignments would be able to be available online -- projected into in each and every classroom," she said.
By Tuesday morning, Imagine Weston had more than 40,000 votes. The voting cut off is midnight this Thursday.
Principal Sharon Schmidt said the more access her students have to technology now, they further ahead they will be in the future.
"In order for them to get accepted into the programs of study that they want to, when they leave the public school system, they need to have that knowledge," said Schmidt.
