Police are investigating after a woman was shot and killed while driving in North Miami Sunday.
North Miami Police said the woman crashed her car into a fence in the 1200 block of Northwest 130th Street. When officers arrived, they discovered she had a gunshot wound to her chest.
"As the officers investigated what they thought was a one car accident, they discovered that she had been shot," said North Miami Police spokesman Maj. Neal Cuevas.
The woman was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Family members identified the victim as Nadine Noel and said the tragedy happened on her 37th birthday.
"Whoever did this knew what they were doing, because obviously, they knew it was her birthday," sister Rachel Noel said Monday. "It was someone that is heartless, who just literally took her life away, took her away from us."
Nadine Noel's last Facebook post showed a picture of the smiling woman. "I'm going to party like it's my birthday," she wrote.
Police said an early 2000s black Nissan Altima 4-door with very dark tints, a dent on the rear driver's side door and a faded right front bumper was seen leaving the area.
Also seen in the area were two black males in their 20s, both about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, one with a medium build and medium dreads and the other with a heavy build and short hair.
Noel's loved ones would have been celebrating another year of her life, but now are mourning her absence.
"You need her, she's there. Right now, the only thing I can say is, she's gone, she's up there in heaven and she's watching over us," said Noel's sister.
Police are still investigating the death, and it's unknown whether Noel was targeted.
"You need to step up and own [up] to what you've done!" Rachel Noel said.
