Obama: Astronauts, Check My Lawn

President asks Atlantis commander how yard looks

Liberal or conservative, you have to admit it's been a tough run for President Barack Obama. The sagging economy. Bailouts. Wars in the Middle East. Top that off with a swine-flu epidemic and you'd think the man would lose his sense of humor about the job.

Not this president.

Taking advantage of a one of the perks of the job, Obama enlisted the help of the space shuttle crew aboard Atlantis Wednesday to check in on his house when Commander Scott Altman mentioned he took a few aerial photos of Chicago from space. Click to listen to the entire conversation.

"Did you guys see my house?" Obama joked during the phone call. "I"m trying to figure out if my lawn is getting mowed there."

We're gonna go with a yes on that.

The president also showed his serious side with the crew, including former Chicagoan and astro-physicist John Grunsfeld.

"I've been watching with amazement the gorgeous images you've been sending back" he said. "It's a high priority of mine to restore that sense of wonder that space provides."
