Atheist Author to Battle Christians at Book Expo

British-born antitheist, author, journalist and U.S. political observer Christopher Hitchens is scheduled to take part in what will likely be a very lively discussion at this weekend's Christian Book Expo at the Dallas Convention Center.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., Hitchens will take part in a two-hour discussion with Christian apologetics experts who will respond to atheist claims through Scripture, science, and history about why Christianity is both reasonable and good for the world. The discussion will be moderated by Christianity Today's Stan Guthrie.  Panelists will include Lee Strobel, William Lane Craig, James Denison.

Hitchens has penned such works as God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything and most recently, Is Christianity Good for the World? - A Debate, which he co-authored with Douglas Wilson.

Hitchens typically trains his criticism of religion on the "three great monotheisms" (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) but has since expanded his focus to include all religion known to man.

According to a bio on the Expo's Web site, Hitchens is also a regular contributor to Vanity Fair, The Atlantic Monthly, and Slate. Hitchens has also appeared on the Daily Show, Charlie Rose, and C-Span's Washington Journal.

He was named one of the world's "Top 100 Public Intellectuals" by Foreign Policy and Britain's Prospect. Hitchens resides in Washington, D.C.
