Mia Farrow Starves to Save Darfur

Actress Mia Farrow is planning a hunger strike next week in solidarity with the suffering masses of the Darfur region of western Sudan, in Africa.

It's unclear why anyone should care about the 64-year-old ex-wife of both Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra only drinking water for as long as possible -- although the humanitarian crisis in Darfur itself is a global tragedy.

Farrow said she will begin the fast on Monday "as a personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease."

Farrow was moved to begin the hunger strike after the Sudanese government expelled international aid agencies from the country last month.

Farrow, who first made her mark on the silver screen as the lead in 1968's "Rosemary's Baby," and last had a role in 2008's "Be Kind, Rewind," said she is calling on world leaders to "help build a credible peace process" to end the violence in Darfur. Her protest is part of Genocide Prevention Month, a campaign to stop genocide worldwide.
