Summit to Cuba?

Venezuelan Prez Hugo Chávez has a great idea: Let’s have the next Summit of the Americas in Cuba.

Hugo Chávez proposed an idea to the 34 leaders at the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Trinidad, saying next time around they should meet in Cuba.

While our trade embargo with the country and the its 47-year-old suspension from the Organization of American States have been the topics for many leaders at the Summit, spokesman Felipe Noguera says not everyone is down with the idea of the country being the host with the most.

''Cuba could not possibly host the next summit unless it was a member of the OAS,'' the MIami Herald reports Noguera saying. ``You can't put the cart before the horse.''

True, you may not be able to put the cart before the horse, but you can put a book in the president’s hand, as Chávez did. The Venezuelan president gave Obama a read entitled, “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent."

In no time flat, the book, a Uruguayan journalist's exposition on foreign exploitation of the region, went from a sales rank of 54,000-plus to number 7 on Amazon, leaving some to say Chavez’s book club is more powerful than Oprah’s.
