Authories now confirm that an escaped prisoner is in custody after about an hour-and-a-half search in Northwest Miami-Dade County in the early afternoon Tuesday.

The Florida Department of Corrections said Juan Preval escaped the Opa Locka Work Release Center at about 11:30 a.m. as he awaited transfer back to prison. Preval was being sent back to prison because he was found with contraband while working at the center.

He was in leg shackles and handcuffs when he escaped.

Authories say that a prison K-9 team caught Preval about a half-mile west of the center behind a Burger King.
