NBC 6 Renew You Health Expo Kicks Off

Expo features free health screenings, rock climbing and a judge's chair from "The Voice"

The NBC 6 Renew You Health Expo kicked off at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale Saturday morning.

NBC 6 anchors and reporters posed with fans and guided them to the gamut of health and wellness resources available, from healthy food and drinks to activities such as rock climbing, a ski machine and a virtual golf simulator.

"Information changes every day. You're always hearing you hear friends talk about things, (but) you're not sure,” Mary Jane Howard said. “Here you're getting the real information from the real people.”

Viewers who drop by the expo can also sit in a judge’s chair from “The Voice,” or try being a meteorologist in front of a television green screen.

"It's really interesting,” said Courtney Hamilton, who was looking for health information. “There's a lot of cool booths all over the place and I’m learning a lot.”

The expo includes free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer – and exhibits such as one where people can learn about breast cancer.

"Very important because I have two family members recently diagnosed with breast cancer and the more education we have on it the better,” Sheila Goesby said.

For guys there was the “Man Van,” focused on men's health issues and screenings.

The Renew You Health Expo continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the convention center, at the northern end of Port Everglades.
