Miami-Dade Parks Manager Charged With Grand Theft

Parks employee embezzled over $12,000: police

A Miami-Dade parks department manager faces grand theft charges after police say he embezzled over $12,000 in cash and checks from one of the parks.

Mitchell A. Burroughs, 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of grand theft, the Miami-Dade Police Department said.

Members of the Miami-Dade Police's Public Corruption Investigations Bureau had been investigating Burroughs since last September.

Authorities say Burroughs embezzled the funds from the Westwind Lakes Park. They say when he was confronted by officers, he admitted to the crime and resigned from his parks position.

Burroughs was being held on $10,000 bond Thursday morning.
