1 Dead After Shooting Ends in Crash in Pompano Beach: Deputies

Two suspects fired shots at another vehicle, causing a chase that ended in a violent crash.

One person was killed in a crash that followed a shooting in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the incident began at about 5 a.m. on Dixie Highway and ended on Interstate 95 just north of Sample Road.

Officials said two male suspects wearing handkerchiefs to conceal their faces in a 1997 Toyota Camry fired shots at a male and female victim in another vehicle. Deputies said they believe the gunman may have thought the male victim was someone else.

Neither of the victims was hit, so when the suspect vehicle fled, the victims followed, deputies said.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the northbound lanes of I-95. Deputies said the driver, 23-year-old Ivan Alexander Parra, was killed and a passenger was transported to Broward Health North Medical Center in critical condition. Deputies said the passenger will be charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Investigators are looking into the incident. Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
