Driver Impaled by Tree, Killed After Crash in Miami Beach: Police

The accident occurred at 41st Street and Pine Tree Drive

A driver was killed when he was impaled by a tree in an accident in Miami Beach Thursday, police said.

The driver was traveling north on Pine Tree Drive when he crashed near the intersection with 41st Street at about 4:52 p.m., Miami Beach Police spokeswoman Vivian Hernandez said.

The man died on the scene, and the medical examiner supervised firefighters' removal of his body from the SUV, she said.

The vehicle came to a stop on grass a short distance from the street. Firefighters sawed off branches around the vehicle, chopper footage showed.

Police said they don't know what caused the accident. The victim was a white male in his late 40s, and police have not yet notified the next of kin, Hernandez said.

A big red tourist bus was also stopped on a street just around the corner. Hernandez said the double-decker bus had nothing to do with the accident. It was trying to make a U-turn and got stuck on the sidewalk.
