1 Dead in Hollywood Apartment Fire: Police

Officials said the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious.

One person is dead after a fire broke out at a Hollywood apartment building early Saturday morning.

Officers from the Hollywood Police Department responded to the scene at 1610 North Dixie Highway just before 12:30 a.m., according to a press release.

The building was evacuated, but one person was found dead in one of the apartments after the fire was extinguished, police said.

Officials have not yet identified the victim, but said it is a man in his mid-30s.

The Red Cross is providing lodging for about 25 residents who were displaced.

Police said the incident appears to be suspicious, and the State Fire Marshall, Hollywood Fire Department and Medical Examiner's Office are helping in the investigation.
