College Baseball Player Killed in Fiery I-75 Crash Sunday

A fiery crash on Interstate 75 in Davie claimed the life of a 21-year-old college baseball player early Sunday morning.

The deadly crash occurred just north of Sheridan Street near Griffin Road at around 5 a.m., causing authorities to close down three lanes along I-75.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle lost control when, for an undetermined reason, it struck a 2009 Hyundai Tucson while traveling southbound on I-75.

The victim's car flipped and caught fire as the driver, Dallas Perez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Perez was a sophomore finance major at Nova Southeastern University, where he was a member of the Sharks baseball team that won a national title earlier this year. He was a graduate of American Heritage School in Plantation.

The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
