A semi-tractor trailer collided with the bus in western St. Lucie County

One student died Monday afternoon when a semi-tractor trailer collided with a school bus in western St. Lucie County, WPTV reported.

Between 30 and 34 students from Fort Pierce’s Frances K. Sweet Elementary School were aboard when the crash occurred west of Fort Pierce at the corner of Midway and Okeechobee roads at about 3:45 p.m., according to WPTV.

Fourteen students were injured and at least three were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in serious condition, officials said.

The school bus driver was also reportedly injured. The impact of the crash spun the school bus around and overturned the tractor trailer, which was carrying sod, The Palm Beach Post reported.
