2 Dead After House Fire in Tamarac

NBC Universal, Inc.

A house fire in Tamarac killed two people Wednesday evening.

Cell phone video shows the home consumed by clouds of dark smoke.

“There was smoke everywhere, everywhere,” said Stephanie, who lives nearby. “It was covered in smoke.”

“It was horrible,” said neighbor Susan Grimes. “The smoke was billowing up as high as that tree there. It was crazy.”

First responders arrived to the home just after 5:30pm, according to Van Schoen, public information officer for Tamarac Fire Rescue.

“We responded and found a fully involved structure fire with multiple people inside and evacuating,” Schoen said.

Four people were inside the home when the fire broke out, he said.

One victim was found inside, another was taken to Broward General Hospital and later died, according to Schoen.

“It’s so unfortunate with everything going on right now,” Stephanie said. “This is something else somebody has to deal with. It’s very sad.”

Neighbors say they smelled the smoke from down the street.

“It’s terrible anytime something like this happens,” said resident Felicia Fox.

“This is so upsetting,” Grimes said. “I can’t even express.”
