1 Dead After Road-Rage Incident Leads to Shooting Near Fort Lauderdale: BSO

What started as a road-rage incident, ended with one man dead and another man being questioned by homicide detectives Sunday night, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Just after 6 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the scene where Don William Alvarez, 27, was shot in the 1300 block of Southwest 48th Avenue in unincorporated Central Broward near Fort Lauderdale.

Paramedics transported the victim to Broward Health Medical Center where he died. No other injuries were reported.

The alleged shooter, 28-year-old Jack Bellino, remained on scene and was questioned by detectives. Investigators learned that Bellino and Alvarez were traveling on the roadway in opposite directions just a couple of blocks from Bellino's residence when Bellino may have accidentally swerved into Alvarez's lane. Alvarez, who was in the car with his girlfriend, made a U-turn and pursued Bellino, according to BSO.

Homicide detectives said the statements provided by Bellino and Alvarez's girlfriend were consistent with eyewitness accounts and her cellphone video that suggested the shooting was a result of self defense.

Homicide detectives will turn the case over to the State Attorney's Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
