1 Dead in Miami Gardens Shooting

A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his Miami Gardens home Wednesday evening. The shooting happened on 125th Street in Miami Gardens.

“My whole life passed in front of me,” said the victim’s mother Georgina Smith. “I will never get a grandchild from him or daughter-in-law. Not only did you kill my baby, you killed all of us; you took a part of all of us."

Witnesses said 26-year-old Romeo Hibbert was mowing his lawn when shots were fired.

The witnesses said after the shooting, two men in a red Camaro took off from the scene but ended up hitting a white car that had a woman and child inside and flipped their car.

“I see the suspect’s car, a red Camaro, flying down 185th Street and hit a white car with a lady and a baby in the car,” a witness told NBC 6. “One of the boys’ bodies flew out of the car. The other one climbed out the window and ran towards 22nd Avenue.”

The driver of the white car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

Miami Gardens Police have been tight-lipped at the two crime scenes, but a source close to the investigation told NBC 6 that police are searching for two men who ran from the scene of the crash.

“I want to plea for this family that someone break the silence,” said Pastor Eric Readon of New Beginnings Church. “If you saw the car or can identify somebody, call the police, report it, that’s what will stop this; the community has to get involved.”

If you have any information about the shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
