1 Injured in Emergency Plane Landing in Banana Field: Haitian Police

The plane took off from Pompano Beach Airpark in Broward.

Haitian police said on Thursday that a small plane piloted by a U.S. citizen suffered mechanical problems and made an emergency landing in a field of bananas in Haiti.

Police inspector Joachin Antoine said that pilot Practor Antoine was treated for unspecified injuries at a hospital in the capital. A passenger named John Michael was not injured.

The aircraft, bound for Port-au-Prince, went down Wednesday night just outside Cabaret, a coastal town northwest of the capital, Antoine said.

Public records identify the plane as a Cessna Super Skymaster. It had left Pompano Beach Airpark in Broward County, Fla., Wednesday morning and landed in the northern city of Cap-Haitien.
