‘We're All Messed Up': Barbershop Owner Killed in Miramar Crash

A community is mourning the death of a barbershop owner after he crashed into a piece of machinery at a road construction site in Miramar early Thursday.

Miramar Police confirmed the crash took place around 2:15 a.m. along Douglas Road near the Florida’s Turnpike when the white Chevy Tahoe slammed into the piece of machinery.

The driver went through several construction and detour signs and crashed into equipment. The machinery fell and crushed him.

The driver died at the scene. He was later identified as 32-year-old Luis Jesus Rodriguez Jr., of Hollywood.

Friends and family gathered Thursday night outside of Fat Cutz, a barbershop in Miami Gardens that Rodriguez owned since 2009.

"We're all messed up," said Chris Benitez, a friend. "It sucks."

Rodriguez -- also known as "Fat Boy" -- was remembered as someone who helped others with finding homes and always had a smile on his face.

A stretch of Douglas Road between County Line Road and the 3700 block was closed for several hours as a result of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
