Girl who had been missing since Friday found safe with father, who is charged with taking her against a state or agency order

A 10-month-old girl who went missing from Miami Gardens on Friday was found safe Sunday with her father, who was arrested and charged with taking her against a state or agency order, police said.

Miami Gardens Police say Arianna Willis and 42-year-old Dexter Jones were found in the area of Northwest 199th Street and Northwest 2nd Avenue after an officer on patrol was approached by a citizen who said they were both seen in a nearby establishment.

The officer recovered the child and detained the father, and neither were injured. The child was placed in the custody of the Broward Department of Children and Families.

Police had said Willis went missing Friday from 2951 Northwest 211th Street in Miami Gardens. DCF had visited the family's home on Thursday, and Jones had been expected in court on Friday after he was in violation of a court order to surrender his daughter, police said.

It was unknown why there was a court order for him to surrender the child.

Records showed Jones was booked into jail at 3:33 a.m. Monday and was being held without bond. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
