11 People Displaced Following Apartment Fire in Miami

Eleven people are looking for a place to stay after being temporarily displaced by a fire.

The incident happened Sunday just after 5:30 a.m., officials said.

City of Miami firefighters arrived to the scene at the 1100 block of Northwest 4th Street to find heavy fire coming from the rear first floor of a two-story apartment building and tenants evacuating.

Fire crews were quickly able to control the fire, while paramedics evaluated the residents.

According to the resident in the fire unit, he was awakened by the fire that consumed his living room. As the fire spread, he managed to escape through a small window. He tried to put the fire out but was unable to do so because of thick smoke.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to one unit, but there was significant smoke and heat damage.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
