114 Cats Seized After Foul Odor Detected at Fla. Home

Officials say they have removed more than 114 cats from a Deltona home after a code violation inspection.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the animals were discovered this week after officials went to the home to check on a broken garage door. Officials say they could smell a foul odor, came back with a search warrant and found more than 100 cats inside the house.

Santiago Gonzalez, who lives at the home, says he and his wife have been rescuing cats for ten years and the couple helps find them homes.

A spokesman could not say whether the animals were malnourished or mistreated. They are being evaluated at Halifax Humane Society in Daytona Beach.

Deltona law allows residents to have a maximum of five animals.
