Police said they arrested a 12-year-old boy on Wedneday for stealing a car and cited him for leaving the scene of a crash.
Investigators said they found a boy in the area of N.W. 9th Avenue and 3rd Street fitting the description of a hit and run driver who at 4:30 p.m. crashed a red Pontiac Grand Am into a motor scooter and fled on foot.
Police detained the boy and arrested him for grand theft auto and leaving the scene of a crash. According to the arrest affidavit, the boy said he used a knife to start the stolen vehicle.
The Grand Am owner who filed the stolen vehicle report indicated that the ignition had been popped out and damaged, according to the affidavit.
