Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run: Cops

City of Miami Police said a homeless man was killed Saturday morning

A homeless man was killed in a hit and run accident early Saturday morning, police said.

City of Miami Police say Carl Jones was crossing NW 79th Street near the intersection of North Miami Avenue when a car traveling eastbound struck him dead. The car later fled the scene, police said.

"They didn't hit a dog or anything, they hit a human being," said Gonzalo Jimenez, the owner of a tire store who's surveillance cameras caught the incident on tape.

His surveillance video captures the moment when Jones begins crossing the street but is struck by a car that does not stop. The person behind the wheel just kept going, perhaps not knowing a camera was rolling.

Thanks to the surveillance video, police have some clues into who they're looking for.

"We're looking for black, four-door vehicle with extensive front end damage," Detective Joseph Kennedy told NBC 6.

Police are asking the anyone with information on the suspect to come forward.

"If there's any witnesses out there that may have seen this horrific crash. If you are the driver please come forward - there's a concerned family that needs answers," Kennedy said.

Jimenez hopes so as well, for the family's sake.

"I feel bad for the person's families, especially since it happened in front of my business," Jimenez said.
