2 Families Displaced After Miami House Fire: MFR

Miami Fire-Rescue responded to a two-story house fire Wednesday evening.

It happened just before 5 p.m. in the 2000 block of Northwest 5th Street near 20th Avenue in Miami.

Miami Police officers, on patrol in the area, were flagged down by a resident who noticed smoke coming from a first floor window. Officers assisted the family with removing two pet dogs as the smoke covered the patio area.

Miami Fire-Rescue arrived to find most of the windows and patio doors with storm shutters that were closed, making it difficult to determine the location of the fire. Firefighters located the fire in the first floor living room area and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to the second floor.

The house is separated into two units with a family of seven living on one side and a family of four on the other side.

Both families have been displaced and the American Red Cross is assisting.

"Everything burned. There's glass everywhere. We don't have anything," said Zobeyva Morales, victim. "I just lost everything."

Investigators are looking into what exactly caused the fire.
