2 Fishermen Rescued From Sinking Boat: MDFR

There were a few scary moments for a pair of fishermen Monday morning when their boat capsized and nearly went under at Government Cut in Miami-Dade.

Miami Dade Fire-Rescue were called to a vessel in distress one-mile offshore of Government Cut at the Japanese Gardens boat dock just after 10:00 a.m. The 22-foot Concept was capsized and the two passengers, Jorge Chaluja and Joseph Diaz-Quesada, were in the water according to Marine Patrol Unit officers.

Chaluja and Quesada waded helplessly in the water for about 10 minutes before they were rescued. The boat they were on capsized and partially sunk, MDFR says.

Both were transported to Watson Island in good condition, and the boat was recovered by a local tow boat service.

Thankfully, neither Chaluja nor Quesada were injured.
