2 Badly Hurt as Car Crashes Into Bus Bench in Miami-Dade

Police are searching for the driver and passenger of a car that crashed into a bus bench in northeast Miami-Dade Friday morning, injuring two people.

The incident was reported in the area of Northeast 125th Street and 11th Place around 9:30 a.m. Witnesses said after plowing into the bench, the driver and passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot, leaving the car behind.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said an elderly woman was airlifted as a trauma alert, while another one was taken as a trauma alert by ground. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

A third victim was also treated at the scene.

Those three adults and 11-year-old Chelsea Romain were on the bench when the car came careening toward them out-of-control.

"I was sitting between them, but lucky we didn't get hurt, me and my grandma were close to the edge but we didn't get hurt," Romain explained.

"When MDFR arrived on the scene, we were confronted with multiple patients, one of which was pinned between the bus stop and the car," said Michelle Fayed with MDFR.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
