2 Hurt After Crashing Stolen Car on I-75 in Broward

Two people were seriously hurt after the SUV they're accused of stealing flipped over in a fiery crash overnight on Interstate 75 in Broward County.

Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol say they were called to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. at I-75 northbound at the Miramar Parkway East/7A exit.

According to officials, Miami-Dade Police spotted a Mercedes SUV driving recklessly westbound on Miami Gardens Drive. The officer lost sight of that vehicle and was canceled from the call, but later spotted that same SUV on its side on the eastbound entrance ramp to Miramar Parkway.

One of the men was ejected from the vehicle, while the other was struggling to crawl from the car. According to FHP, the SUV also caught fire after the crash.

The owner of the SUV had reported it stolen overnight. Police said her purse had been stolen out of the vehicle earlier Tuesday and that the suspects returned to steal the SUV.

Both victims were taken to Memorial Regional East hospital in Hollywood, one with life-threatening injuries and the other in serious condition.

Officials have not released the identities of the two men. Police said the suspects are connected to multiple burglaries.

The I-75 northbound to eastbound ramp/Miramar Parkway was closed for several hours, but has since reopened. Officials remain at the scene and at the hospital continuing their investigation.
