2 Teens Shot in Northwest Miami-Dade: Police

Police are investigating after two teens were shot in northwest Miami-Dade Friday evening.

The shooting happened in the 2400 block of Northwest 57th Street.

Police said 16-year-old Shania Lowery was shot twice, once in each leg, while 15-year-old Dayvon Davis was grazed by a bullet. Lowery has since been released from the hospital.

"They started shooting. I was standing outside and I ran inside the house and I got shot. I thought I was going to die," Shania said.

Shania was outside her home with her mother and Davis, when they said another teenager walked up to them and opened fire. Kim Lowery said she ducked back inside her car and called 911.

"You can't even describe it. I'm just sitting in my truck, getting ready to leave, and all you hear is gunshots," Kim said.

"When they first started shooting, I thought I got shot in the head. I felt wind going passed my head and when I found out I was only shot in the legs I was happy, but still crying, because I was hurting," Shania said.

The shooter ran off. Miami-Dade Police are searching him, but the family said they know who he is.

"Very few of these children have any regard or morale for adults, for elders, for anyone. It's WWII out here," said Angela Dowtin, godmother.

This violence came just two days after 15-year-old Johnny Lubin was shot and killed while walking home from Miami Northwestern High School. Shania said Johnny was her best friend, "He played football and I cheered for the same team."

In fact, Shania was on her way to cheerleading practice to prepare for this weekend's competition when she was shot, "I've been waiting to go out of town and now I can't compete."

Shania used to attend Northwestern High School, but now attends a private school, Center for Life.

Police said no arrests have been made in the shooting.
