2 High School Students Killed, 1 Injured in Homestead Rollover Crash

Two high school students were killed Monday in a rollover crash on Homestead.

The collision happened along southwest 137th avenue near Campbell Drive. The car slammed into a tree. Police said speed was a factor.

Police say three teens, ranging from 16 to 18 years old, were inside the car. The driver, 18-year-old Samir Barrera, and passenger, 17-year-old Isiah West, were ejected. Both died at the scene.

Another teen passenger was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in extremely critical condition.

All three teens are students at Keys Gate Charter High School in Homestead.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. This is a very difficult time at our school and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families," Keys Gate principal Corinne Baez said in a statement. "We are like a great big family and the loss of our loved ones is awful. Our thoughts are with these students families and friends. We are offering grief counseling today for staff and students."

Police are working to determine the cause of the crash.
