Bomb Squad Explodes Unattended Bag at Miami Beach School

Two Miami Beach schools were on lockdown Thursday while authorities investigated an unattended bag.

Biscayne Elementary School and Lehrman Day School were both placed on lockdown after the bag was found at Biscayne Elementary, Miami Beach Police said.

A bomb squad responded to the scene and exploded the bag, which was found to be harmless.

Police said the students were safe with staff at a separate location on school property. Students would be dismissed at regular scheduled times via 75th Street, police said.

The incident caused some tense moments for parents and students.

"My heart is broken, I don't know what happened inside," parent Paola Rocha said.

"It was king of creepy at the same time as it was exciting," student Zoe Valerio said.
