2 Women Shot in Opa-locka, Shooters on the Loose: City Manager

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported two women to the hospital after they were shot in Opa-locka Tuesday morning.

The shooting was reported at Northwest 138th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue at 9:15 a.m., as the women were in a car in the drive through at a Burger King.

Opa-locka City Manager David Chiverton confirmed that two women had been shot. One of them, 18-year-old Donesha Grant, recorded a video and posted it to Facebook after she'd been shot.

"I feel like I'm going to pass out. Mom I just got shot three times and If i die...I'm good," she says in the video, adding that she knows one of the shooters. "I know it's crazy but I know who shot me. But he's good, he's good, he shot my homegirl too."

Donesha was with her mother Janell Lark and relative Karolyn Mills. Surveillance video shows two men in red hoodies walking up to the Burger King. Moments later, you see one run and then the second.

The car the women were in sped out of the parking lot and headed south, covered in bullet holes.

Chiverton said the women were not random targets, "According to preliminary investigation, it does look like they were directly targeted."

However, family members said they're unsure why this happened. All three women survived, but after a multi-agency manhunt, the search for the shooter or shooters continues.

"She could've been dead. But God is so good. He saved her," said Prestina Lee, family member.

Nearby elementary schools Nathan B. Young Elementary School, located at 14120 Northwest 24th Street, and Robert Ingram Elementary School, located at 600 Ahmad Street, were both placed on lockdown as a result of the shooting, the Miami-Dade school board confirmed. The lockdowns have since been lifted.
