2 Pet Dogs Killed in North Lauderdale Fire

Two pet dogs were killed and a family of five was displaced after a fire swept through their North Lauderdale house Monday.

The fire was reported at the home at 6310 Southwest 17th Street Monday evening.

Firefighters responded and were able to quickly contain the fire. The bodies of the dogs were later found inside.

Two adults and three children who live in the house weren't home at the time of the fire.

One neighbor said he saw smoke and tried to douse the flames with a garden hose to no avail.

"The whole house was full of smoke," Carlos Vazquez said. "I tried to save what was left of the house but I mean, I couldn't do anything about it."

Authorities haven't given a possible cause of the fire.
