2 South Floridians in 2015 National Spelling Bee

Two South Florida spellers are competing among the best of the best at this year's National Spelling Bee outside of Washington, D.C.

Trishala Kumar, and 8th grader at American Heritage School in Plantation, and Jack Benveniste-Plitt, an 8th grader at Rabbi Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy in Miami Beach, are among the 285 contestants.

Kumar, 13, also competes in the Florida Mathcounts competition and plays with the Florida Youth Orchestra. Benveniste-Plitt, 14, plays guitar and is on his school's flag football team.

The bee started on Tuesday. It can be seen on ESPN 3, with the final on Friday. The winner will walk away with $35,000 in cash and prizes.
