2 Arrested, 1 on the Run After Attempted Home Invasion in Southwest Miami-Dade: Cops

Two are in custody and one remains on the run after an attempted home invasion in Southwest Miami-Dade.

An attempted home invasion triggered a massive police operation in one Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood Thursday morning.

Police said two men tried to break into a home just south of Miller Drive, near 117th Avenue. Several officers, along with a SWAT team, came out to the scene in response to panicked 911 calls.

"The subjects tried to gain entry into the house not knowing there was someone inside," Miami-Dade Police Spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said. "That's what generated all the phone calls and the immediate response from officers."

One man was arrested as officers responded to the scene, another was apprehended after a search, Zabaleta said. Police identified them Friday as 28-year-old Junior Khedive Pascal and 25-year-old Quindy Janvier. They have been charged with residential burglary and criminal mischief.

A third suspect was able to get away in a car. Zabaleta said shots were fired as police tried to stop it.

An elderly woman was safely escorted by police out of the home during the search.

"During the whole thing she heard a noise and she suggested she call police and she did," her grandson Christen said.

Neighbors were told to evacuate their homes and taken to a holding area just outside the scene as officers looked for the suspects. Many said it was a frightening experience.

"A lot of noise outside, people screaming, neighbors screaming at me, 'Get inside the house and lock the door,'" said one man.

Meanwhile, police continue to search for the third suspect. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
