2 Florida Men Sentenced in Fraud Scheme Targeting Veterans Affairs

An indictment had alleged that the men plotted to commit bribery and wire fraud involving the VA.

A former repair contractor with a Florida property management company has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in defrauding a Department of Veterans Affairs mortgage program.

The Justice Department says Ronald Hurst also was ordered to repay the VA nearly $148,000 along with former colleague Bryant Carbonell.

Carbonell was sentenced to six months of home confinement.

An indictment had alleged that Hurst, Carbonell and another man plotted to commit bribery and wire fraud involving the VA from at least January 2006 through September 2007 while working as contractors for Ocwen Loan Servicing LLC of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Hurst pleaded guilty in February to two wire-fraud counts. Carbonell pleaded guilty to the same counts in September of last year.
