2 Hospitalized in Hit-and-Run Including Good Samaritan Helping Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist and a man, who stopped on the road to help him, are in the hospital after another driver crashed into them near Fort Lauderdale and fled, police said

Police said a Ford pick-up truck headed east on West Broward Boulevard was turning left onto Southwest 29 Terrace around 2:30 a.m., when it was struck by a Suzuki motorcycle being driven by 33-year-old Tonio McGowen.

The pick-up driver, 58-year-old Raymond Brown, stopped his truck. Norman Maryland, 57, was in a parked car nearby and rushed to help the motorcyclist.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office, while Maryland was standing on the edge of the road near the motorcycle, a Chrysler Pacifica hit him and the motorcycle. The driver of the Chrysler continued west on West Broward Boulevard without stopping. The vehicle became disabled and the driver and passengers fled on foot.

Both McGowen and Maryland were taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Their injuries are not life threatening.
