2 Hurt As Car Crashes Into Lauderdale Lakes Home, Driver Charged

Two people were hospitalized and a driver has been charged after a car slammed into a home in Lauderdale Lakes early Thursday.

The car went crashing through the home in the 3900 block of Northwest 52nd Avenue just before 2 a.m., officials said.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and transported two people to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. They were later released from the hospital.

The caretaker of the home said two renters who were inside were the victims.

Authorities said the driver of the car left and later returned. The driver, 20-year-old Nicole Bailey, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash, BSO officials said.

Bailey was seen wandering the neighborhood in a bra after the crash, officials said.

"She was wandering around the neighborhood seen by neighbors, she was wearing only a bra and pants," BSO Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said. "She returned back to the scene and uttered several times to deputies and those here 'I'm looking for my Volkswagen Jetta.'"

She was also taken to a nearby hospital and medically cleared before she was booked into the Broward jail. It's unknown if she's hired an attorney.

Marijuana was found in the car but it's unclear if she was under the influence at the time of the crash, officials said.

Bailey's stepfather went to the scene and told reporters she was coming home late from work and that it was dark out and she was disoriented.

Jachles said Bailey failed to negotiate a turn in the road, and that she's not the first driver to crash into the house.

Officials said the home is now unsafe to live in. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
