Good Samaritan Pulls Father, Daughter From Plantation Canal

Plantation Police are investigating an incident where a driver crashed into a canal Friday afternoon. The incident occurred in the area of Northwest 47th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation.

A Good Samaritan didn't think twice, jumping into the water to save the father and daughter inside the sinking vehicle.

"I realized that my finger and my hands couldn't get between the glass and so I pulled it and popped it open and the glass just shattered. As soon as it was shattered, I saw the girl and her father sitting inside the car," Jephtah Thomas explained.

The victims inside were Teophil and Vasthie Omegat, a father and his young daughter. Plantation Fire officials said instead of making a left, the car went straight, causing the vehicle to barrel into the murky waters of the canal.

The father and daughter were taken to Plantation Hospital, but are expected to be okay.

It was back to work as usual for Thomas who works at Boca Raton Lifetime Athletics. He doesn't consider himself a hero, but if he hadn't been there, this may not have had a happy ending.

"I don't think so but when I see, I just had to act. I called 911. I saw the vehicle submerging so it was just instinct," Thomas explained.

Investigators are looking into what caused the driver to lose control and crash into the canal.
