Two people on a moped who nearly struck a police officer in Sweetwater were hospitalized after they were involved in a crash Monday night.
An officer was on patrol near the Li'l Abner Mobile Home Park when he was nearly sideswiped by the moped. The moped continued to the intersection at 112th Avenue and West Flagler Street where it ran a red light and crashed into a car, officials said.
The moped's driver and passenger were both thrown from the moped. They were taken to a nearby hospital where their conditions were unknown.
The intersection was shut down for several hours while police investigated the incident.
