Man Arrested Following Shooting of Two Miami Residents on Turnpike

Shooting injured man and teen from Miami

Police have made an arrest following a possible road rage incident that led to a shooting that wounded a Miami man and woman on Florida's Turnpike over the weekend.

Police said Kwanza Jermaine Donald, 33, was arrested on charges that include attempted murder and is being held on no bond.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said in a news release that the shooting happened about 10:15 a.m. Saturday near Winter Garden as Donald allegedly opened fire on the driver's side window of a car driven by 37-year-old Dexter Bernard.

Bernard and 17-year-old Lashey Bernard were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds, but are expected to be okay.

Donald turned himself in to the Orange County Sheriff's Office on Sunday and was placed under arrest, admitting to opening fire but telling officers that he did so in self defense and claimed he had been the target in a road rage incident the day before from a car similar to the one driven by Bernard.

Troopers say there is no evidence to support Donald's story.
