2 Men Hurt After Crashing Into NW Miami-Dade Apartment

Two men were transported to the hospital after they slammed into a northwest Miami-Dade apartment complex Wednesday morning.

It happened around 4:15 a.m. at an apartment complex located in the 7100 block of Northwest 17th Avenue in northwest Miami-Dade.

The hood of the red Ford Mustang convertible they were driving was completely smashed after they crashed into the building.

It is not immediately known what caused the driver to lose control, but Miami-Dade Police told NBC 6 that speed may have been a factor.

Police also said it appears the driver never hit the brakes before slamming into the building, and he may have lost control of the car while going over a railroad crossing directly north of the apartment building.

The impact of the crash took out a piece of the building, however no injuries have been reported.

The property owner told NBC 6 that it was a close call, as several residents were very close to the area of the car's impact.

NBC 6 has learned the men were taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, and were not transported by emergency responders. They were both alert and talking, and were listed in stable condition.

The driver was cited with careless driving and driving with a suspended license. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors in the crash, police said.

An officer at the scene told NBC 6 that a gun was found on the floor of the passenger area of the car. It has been determined the gun was legally owned and properly permitted.

The crash remains under investigation.
