2 Men Unhurt After Fire Engulfs Plane at SW Florida Airport

Two men were able to survive a potentially serious situation after an airplane they were on became engulfed with flames at a Southwest Florida airport.

NBC affiliate WFLA-TV reports the incident took place Sunday afternoon at the Venice Municipal Airport on a Piper PA-32 Cherokee 6 airplane. Just before it was set to leave the airport, a spokesperson for the city said the pilot smelled smoke and cleared the plane.

Rescue crews arrived just after flames engulfed the plane, but no one was injured.

An investigation continues into what caused the fire to begin.
