Authorities say two children drowned in separate Palm Beach County incidents.
Palm Beach Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera says a 3-year-old was playing in the water with other children at Boynton Beach Inlet on Tuesday when someone noticed the child in distress. A lifeguard administered CPR until rescue units arrived and took the child to the hospital. The child later died.
Barbera says the drowning appears to be a ``tragic accident.''
Several hours later, a resident saw a 7-year-old boy enter a retention pond in Riviera Beach and tried to find him. Riviera Beach police spokeswoman Rose Anne Brown says three officers eventually found the boy who died at a hospital.
The officers were placed on administrative leave pending an evaluation of fitness to return to duty after a traumatic event.
