To fortify crime prevention with technology, the Ring security company will donate 200 video doorbell devices in a collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police Department and Citizens' Crime Watch.
The video doorbells will be connected to Ring's Neighbors app, which offers real-time crime and safety alerts. The app allows people to anonymously report suspicious activity via text, photo or video – allowing neighbors to become aware.
Ring said its security systems have been instrumental in preventing burglaries and catching package thieves.
"We know video works, so the more that we can share that with each other, we can stop criminals in their tracks and that's what we're trying to do," MDPD Chief Hector Llevat said.
Ring will donate the 200 video doorbells to Citizens' Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County, which will then distribute the security devices within a month to crime victims who go through a security survey from police.
"We need to get the neighbors coordinated. We need to get the neighbors to be able to relate with police," Carmen Caldwell of Citizens’ Crime Watch said.
