22nd Anniversary Fleet Week Comes to Port Everglades

More than 2,000 members of the armed forced participating in annual celebration

Fleet Week 2012 has finally docked in South Florida.

A stream of ships sailed into Port Everglades early Wednesday morning for the 22nd annual Fleet Week.

From Wednesday through Monday, residents will have the opportunity to mingle with more than 2,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guard members that are expected to participate in the week's events.

As part of this year's celebration, two Fort Lauderdale natives were proudly welcomed home as captains. Capt. Gary Boardman arrived as the commanding officer of the USS Wasp and Capt. Robert N. Hein as the commanding officer of the USS Gettysburg.

Tours of the missile cruisers and war ships are also available to those who register in advance.
