Arrests Made at Coral Springs Schools

An arrest was made at a second Coral Springs school Friday after an increased police presence following a threat posted to social media.

Additional officers were at Coral Glades High School Friday, following the posting made on an Instagram user "CGHSWAR," Coral Springs Police said.

"We burning Glades down!" Thursday's Instagram posting reads. "We shootin Coral Glades High up tomorrow October 10th at 11:55 AM!! Fires fights everything!!!!!! Be ready!"

Around noon, officers were seen taking a young female into custody and placing her in a police car. Officials haven't said who the suspect is or what charges they may face. Police also issued a statement Friday saying the students who made the threats had been identified and that charges were pending.

Students and parents began sending tweets to Coral Glades Principal Steven Carruth after the Instagram posting was made Thursday.

"We are aware of the intentions of a few. Authorities are tracking these students and we have a plan to ensure everyone's safety," Carruth responded.

An email and phone message from the school was also sent to parents early Friday letting them know that classes would continue Friday.

"We do have additional staff and police here on campus to ensure everyone's safety, along with a plan to limit student movement, while at the same time, keeping classes moving as usual," the message said. "We have the situation under control and need your help to not spread or entertain rumors that may come through social media, etc."

Coral Springs Police said they are investigating the incident.

"We are aware of the incident and looking into the matter but I am not aware of anyone being questioned at this time," police said in a statement.

While the high school student was being arrested, a 12-year-old was also arrested after posing as a boy online who had been bullied and threatened to come to school and shoot it up with an AK-47.

The middle school involved, Ramblewood Middle School, issued a statement saying in part, “Ramblewood Middle School is pleased to announce that the recent situation of social media threats towards some of our neighboring schools has been resolved. Law enforcement has identified 2 suspects and made arrests.”

It's the second time police have had to increase presence at a Coral Springs school this week.

Additional officers were posted to Taravella High School Wednesday after a series of incidents inside the school including two fires that were intentionally set and fights between students. A possible threat of a shooting at the school plotted for Friday was also being investigated.
